The story behind the brand
Essence was created in 2001 in Germany, by a woman named Christina, who wanted makeup to be affordable and of great quality. Today it is Germany’s number 1 drugstore brand, that offers great fun products fit for anyone’s budget.
The products in my collection
To be honest, Essence is one of my all-time favourite drugstore brands. They are always on trend, coming up with cheaper alternatives for expensive products. They were the first drugstore brand to come out with a rainbow highlighter for the masses, which was much cheaper than the original one.
Thanks to Essence you can try things out and see if they work for you, without splashing the cash. And this is awesome.
The main major downfall of the brand in my opinion, is the packaging. It is made of cheap plastic and can easily be broken, ruining the product inside. This makes the products look like children’s makeup, and the very cartoon like advertisements don’t really help.
But the cheap packaging is a small price to pay for the really amazing quality and pigmentation of the products.
There is a great selection of colours in the eye shadow range, from nudes to more vibrant ones, like the little duo I have. The Irresistible purple caught my eye because of how unique the colors were , and to this day I was not able to find a similar dupe in the high end brands.
They apply beautifully, with practically no fall out. And may I say, the pigmentation is INTENSE!
You even don’t need an eyeshadow primer! The swatches above are made with no primer and without using the wet brush method! You get 2.8 gr of product that will last you for ages , for a really affordable price – what more can a beauty lover ask for?
The eyebrow set offers you two shades, which will help you try out different looks and find the style, that suits you most. However, I would recommend using another brush, as the one in the set is just too small. These shadows have a little bit more fallout than the eyeshadows, but it makes it much easier to apply to the brows.
The liners are a must have. Especially the longlasting pencil, which has an almost gel like formulae.
It glides on to your eyelids, offering high pigmentation from the first go.
Also it’s an automatic packaging, which in my opinion is much easier to use than the ones, that need sharpening. But that’s mainly because I am lazy.
Having said all of the above, I do have to say that the lipsticks are the ones that won my heart. Liquid or usual format they are simply unbelievable for the price you pay.
The longlasting MATT lipgloss, is smooth and comfortable on the lips. It doesn’t dry them or leave them feeling sticky. Yes, it isn’t a complete matt look, more of a velvety one, but trust me it looks stunning! And when you compare it , for example, to the MAC retro lips ( I talked about it in my last review), which in my opinion is horrible and costs 5 times more, there shouldn’t be a doubt which product to purchase. The sheer lip balm doesn’t just hydrate your lips, but it also manages to make them look fuller. The rose nude colour is beautiful for fair skinned girls.
All of the lip products have yummy vanilla scent , as if you are smelling some sort of candy.
The contour duo is probably my least favourite product, simply because I don’t like the highlighter in it. The contouring shade is great, as it is very subtle and blendable, which is perfect for beginners. But the highlighter is more of a light powder, and doesn’t really give that glow ,that I prefer.
If you have never tried Essence before, you really should. I don’t think there is one product that would be a disappointment. I just wish there was an on-line shop or something, that would allow you to order their products, as not all the shops have the full collection presented. Definitely worth the Hype!
